Hodgson & Hodgson has provided acoustic consultancy services to Williams Homes who have recently completed a development of 26 new affordable homes in Loughborough. The £2.9 million project on North Road, to the north of the town centre, forms part of the on-going regeneration of the area and utilises a 1.3 acre brownfield site previously earmarked for industrial use.

Williams Homes had very high expectations of the development’s sound insulation performance and approached Hodgson & Hodgson to carry out sound insulation testing to demonstrate, not only compliance, but a performance of at least 5dB better than the criteria set out in Approved Document E of the Building Regulations. The developer was working to a very tight deadline and required presence on site at short notice and a quick turnaround time for presentation of the final report.

Hodgson & Hodgson’s acoustic consultants attended the site as required, tested and then provided a test report by the very next day thus ensuring the client could meet the NHBC deadline. Hodgson & Hodgson was pleased to confirm that scheme had in fact achieved the desired performance of at least 5dB better than the criteria set out in Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.

Approved Document E of the Building Regulations apply to both new build and conversion or refurbishment projects and set out standards for the sound insulation of residential party walls and floors. The regulations require the builder to undertake pre-completion sound insulation testing of a sample of party walls and party floors to demonstrate to Building Control that compliance with Part E has been achieved.

Hodgson & Hodgson has extensive experience in carrying out ANC accredited sound insulation testing for both new build and conversion schemes. It’s consultants have carried out thousands of tests throughout the country for a wide range of clients working on schemes of all sizes ranging from small change of use projects to multi-storey residential apartment blocks with hundreds of new dwellings.
